Avebury henge is so large, a village was unwittingly built within its boundaries. Dating to the Neolithic period & a similar period to Stonehenge it is comprised of around 100 stones and is best enjoyed on a sunny day out. Admission is free. Find Out More before you travel on English Heritage's website. There is also a nearby museum.

Mysterious & stalwart, Silbury hill is the largest man made mound in Europe matching the height of many Egyptian pyramids. It was constructed in 2400 BC.
Admission is free but there is a parking charge. Best enjoyed when visiting nearby West Kennet long barrow & Avebury henge. We suggest viewing it from West Kennet long barrow as the hill cannot be climbed.

Older than Stonehenge and constructed in 3650 BC this Neolithic burial chamber is a small climb from a free roadside car park. A enigmatic and spiritual place, this is also the best place to view nearby Silbury Hill.

The Kennet & Avon canal stretches all the way from Bristol to Reading where it meets the river Thames. You can drive just beyond Pewsey to meet the canal for a beautiful walk or visit Devizes and marvel at the feat of engineering that is Caen Hill's flight of 29 locks. Who said you can't push water up a hill....

Devizes is another historic market town and is famous for its canals. Rent a canal boat and chug down the Kennet & Avon canal. Devizes to this day maintains a working brewery at Wadworth's which has operated since 1875. A market operates every Thursday.
If you want to get away from it all, carry on and drink some tea at the friendly, educational and bijou tea shop Tea Inc which is locally run and home to more tea than you can shake a stick at. They also have a branch in Marlborough.
